Process: Process Analysis

Process: Process Analysis

Owner: Process Consultant (Philippe) Type: As-is mapping and gap identification methodology

Purpose

Systematic approach to understanding a client's current-state process, identifying inefficiencies, and scoring improvement opportunities.

As-Is Mapping

Document Review (Agent-Led)

  1. Ingest all client-provided materials from input/
  2. Extract: process steps, actors/roles, systems involved, data flows, decision points
  3. Identify: handoffs, wait states, manual steps, error-prone areas
  4. Produce draft process map in process/as-is-map.md

Client Validation (Human-Led)

  1. Walk through draft process map with client stakeholders
  2. Capture corrections, missing steps, tribal knowledge
  3. Update process map to reflect validated current state

Gap Identification

For each process step, assess:

Dimension Question
Efficiency Is this step adding value or just overhead?
Automation potential Could this be automated with current technology?
Error rate Is this step error-prone? What's the failure mode?
Bottleneck Does work queue up here? Why?
Dependency Is this blocked by external systems/people?
Data quality Is the information flowing through reliable?

Opportunity Scoring

Rate each identified gap on two axes:

  • Impact (1-5): How much would fixing this improve the overall process?
  • Feasibility (1-5): How practical is it to address with available technology and budget?

Priority = Impact × Feasibility. Focus recommendations on high-priority items.

Output

  • Validated as-is process map (process/as-is-map.md)
  • Gap analysis with scored opportunities (process/opportunity-assessment.md)
  • Feeds into solution design phase of discovery engagement
